MINISTERIAL MUSINGS
Someone passed on a column in The Plain Dealer by Regina Brett on turning ninety. It included 45 lessons that life has taught her. I don’t have space to share all of them with you, but here are some of my favorites:
Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.
Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
Cry with someone. It’s more healing than crying alone.
It’s ok to get angry with God. He can take it.
It’s ok to let your children see you cry.
If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn’t be in it.
Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don’t worry, God never blinks.
Get rid of anything that isn’t useful, beautiful or joyful.
No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
What other people think of you is none of your business.
See me if you would like a copy of the entire list.
Ministering with you in Christ’s name,
Kenneth Morris
Several people asked for a copy of the "Ten Commandments for Loving" which I discussed in the sermon on May 3. Perhaps you would like to give some thought to these "new commandments" as well.
1. Love is never being too busy for someone who needs you. (Mark 2:1-10)
2. Love means allowing someone to "touch" you, i.e., feel human compassion for someone else. (Mark 5:24-34)
3. Love means reaching out to the powerless. (e.g., children as in Luke 18:16)
4. Love is letting someone do something nice for you. (Mark 14:3-9)
5. Love means taking time to explain. (Luke 7:18-22)
6. Love is inclusive. (Luke 8:1-3)
7. Love does not judge others. (Luke 7:53-8:11)
8. Love means being willing to humble ourselves. (Luke 22:24-28)
9. Love means forgiving those who hurt us. (Luke 23:34)
10. Love means being willing to give our lives for those whom we love. (1 John 3:16-17)
